The London Shipowners Golfing Society Upcoming Events

The Society meets in the Spring and Autumn to play golf in events organised in a unique format involving company teams playing against each other for a number of unique trophies. we play for a variety of Trophies, many of which have names that reflect Britain's Maritime Heritage - Blue Star, Shaw Saville, Fyffes, Port Line, British & Commonwealth, Glen Line. Like these great Shipping Lines who conducted their business in a variety of trades worldwide, the trophies whose name they bear are competed for in a variety of formats including singles, partners and team events.

We use a number of golf clubs to hold our events, most notably Effingham Golf Club (http://www.effinghamgolfclub.com/) and Orsett Golf Club (http://www.orsettgolfclub.com/).

Prior to an event you will be able to sign-up using an online form which will appear below, if there isn't a form it means we do not currently have an event organised.

The highest part of the course is 500 feet above sea level and the chalk subsoil makes for one of the driest courses in the country. Visiting golfers find the course a delight throughout the year.

The Georgian style clubhouse is a listed building dating from 1770 and provides superb facilities for societies and company days and is the spiritual home of the London Shipowners Golfing Society. For 2010 Effingham GC is one of The Open regional qualifier courses and in preparation a number of new tees have been created providing added to spice to an already exceptional course.
